Hi there

Meet Nick: Your Collaborative & Queer-Affirming Therapist

Hello there! I’m Nick (they/them), and I'd genuinely love to be your therapist. As a genderqueer/non-binary person, I bring a unique lens to my work, and having lived in Texas most of my life, I understand the local landscape. My journey to becoming a therapist wasn't a straight line – it was, in fact, gloriously, humanly circuitous!

I was working in a job I deeply enjoyed when a moment of collective betrayal sparked profound conversations among my coworkers and me. In holding space for their feelings, something in me clicked. People told me how much they appreciated that space, and I realized how much joy I found in providing it. A few illuminating talks with my own therapist later, I was enrolled in a counseling program. Every step since has simply felt right, and I'm so excited it has led me to Violet Counseling.

I especially love working with queer clients of all ages who are navigating how to truly be themselves in a world that doesn’t always make space for authenticity. My goal is to support you as you figure things out, embrace your whole self, and step into a life that feels genuinely yours.

My Therapeutic Approach:

Finding Your Path: My Unique Orientation

My therapeutic approach is deeply narrative, feminist, queer, and person-centered. What does that actually look like for you? It means I see you as the expert in your own life, not as someone who needs fixing. I'm here to help you unpack your story, explore how societal narratives or past experiences might be impacting you, and empower you to author your own path forward. My expertise lies in helping you connect with your inner wisdom.

What to Expect: Real & Relatable Sessions

My personal style in sessions is collaborative, compassionate, curious, and fun. We'll work together, side-by-side, to make sense of your experiences. I'll ask good questions, hold space for both the heavy stuff and the genuine laughs, and always meet you with non-judgmental support. Therapy doesn’t have to be all serious, all the time – we can find joy and lightness even as we tackle the tough stuff! My experience with diverse clients means I tailor each session to your unique needs and comfort.

Beyond the Office: A Glimpse into Nick's World

When I'm not in session, I love exploring the world through different lenses. You can often find me curled up with a good book, diving into a new video game, crafting epic adventures in D&D, hanging out with my amazing dog, tending to my garden, or just soaking up some time outside. This allows me to bring a grounded, relatable experience to our sessions.

Got Questions? I've Got Answers! (FAQs)

What are your pronouns, and what if I'm unfamiliar with them?

As a genderqueer, non-binary person, I use they/them pronouns. If you're unfamiliar with they/them pronouns, please don't worry – many people are! You are always welcome to ask questions; my intention is to create a truly safe and affirming space where all curiosities are met with compassion and understanding. This approach stems from my lived experience and expertise in fostering inclusive environments.

What was your career background before becoming a therapist?

I was the classic kid who didn't know what they wanted to be when they grew up, which gave me broad experience across many different industries! I've worked in credit card collections, customer service, built supply packs for elementary science lessons, and even spent a summer as an ice cream maker. My diverse background provides unique insights into navigating various systems and life transitions, complementing my formal expertise as an LPC Associate and adding to my trustworthiness as a relatable guide.

Do you accept insurance for therapy sessions?

I don't directly accept insurance at this time. However, I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to quality mental health support. If you're interested in working together but the session cost is a concern, please reach out! I offer sliding scale pricing for clients to help make therapy more financially accessible. My commitment to accessible care is part of my core values. We can discuss this during your free 15-minute consultation.

Do you have any pets?

Yes! My home is lovingly chaotic thanks to my two feline supervisors, Walker Texas Kitty & Beef, and my delightful canine companion, Wingding. They remind me daily of the simple joys of connection and presence, reflecting my personal experience with companionship.

Getting Started: Your First Step Towards Authentic Living
